How often should periodic appliance testing be carried out?

The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) states that a regular programme of testing must be implemented when appliances are used by employees or by the public (e.g. in hotels, restaurants or shops), or where they are supplied, hired, repaired or serviced. Landlords also have an obligation to ensure all portable appliances in their rental properties are tested. The frequency of testing depends on the appliance, however we recommend that PAT testing is carried out no less frequently than once a year.
